Sacred Valley of the Incas

Cusco, Peru
Full day

Long before the roads crossed the Andes, the Sacred Valley was already a place shaped by rivers, mountains and cultivated terraces. The Urubamba River runs through its heart, while ancient settlements rise along the slopes and fertile fields stretch between them.

This full-day journey follows some of the valley’s most remarkable places, beginning in the heights of Pisac and continuing through traditional Andean communities, agricultural landscapes and the impressive terraces of Ollantaytambo.

Along the way, the archaeological sites become more than isolated ruins. They reveal how the Incas worked with the mountains, controlled their agricultural resources and built settlements adapted to the dramatic geography of the Andes.

Itinerary

A journey through the Valley that fed an empire
  • Pisac – Where the mountains become terraces: The journey begins with a drive into the Sacred Valley, surrounded by steep mountains and cultivated slopes.
  • Our first stop is the archaeological complex of Pisac, positioned high above the Valley. Its terraces, ceremonial spaces and stone structures reveal the importance of this area during the Inca period.
  • From the archaeological site, you can appreciate the relationship between the ancient settlement and the agricultural landscape below. The terraces were not simply built to create beautiful patterns on the mountainside; they were part of an advanced agricultural system adapted to the andean environment.
  • Pisac market – Aliving tradition: We then descend toward the town of pisac, where we have time to visit its traditional market.
  • The market brings together local crafts, textiles, souvenirs and products from different communities of the region. It is also an opportunity to observe everyday commercial traditions that continue to connect the valley's communities.
  • There will be free time to walk through the market and, if you wish, purchase handmade products directly from local vendors.
  • Through the Sacred Valley: We continue toward the heart of the Valley following the Urubamba river.
  • The landscape gradually changes as we move between agricultural fields, small towns and mountain slopes. Along the route, our guide will explain the importance of the Valley for inca agriculture and why this territory became one of the most productive areas of the empire.
  • We will have time for photographs and to appreciate the scenery before continuing toward our next destination.
  • Urubamba – The heart of the Valley: Around midday, we arrive in the area of Urubamba, surrounded by green fields and impressive mountain peaks.
  • Here, we will have time for lunch at a local restaurant. This is a good opportunity to taste some of the flavors of the andes while taking a break before continuing the journey.
  • Lunch is not included in the tour, allowing you to choose according to your preferences.
  • Ollantaytambo – A town built around the mountain: Our final major stop is Ollantaytambo, one of the most remarkable settlements in the Sacred Valley.
  • Its original streets, stone houses, terraces and archaeological structures preserve an urban layout with strong inca characteristics. Walking through the town gives you the opportunity to see how ancient architecture remains part of everyday life.
  • We then visit the archaeological complex, where enormous terraces climb the mountainside. The site combines agricultural, ceremonial and defensive elements and offers spectacular views over the Valley.
  • After the guided visit, we begin our return journey to Cusco.
  • Depending on the final route and schedule, the tour concludes in the city or at the agreed drop-off point.
