Machu Picchu Full day

Some places are understood through their history. Machu Picchu is also understood through its setting: steep green mountains, deep valleys and a network of stone structures that seem to emerge from the surrounding peaks.
Built during the height of the Inca civilization, this extraordinary sanctuary combines sophisticated architecture, agricultural terraces and ceremonial spaces in a landscape that demands attention from every direction. Its location above the Urubamba River valley reveals just how carefully the Incas adapted their settlements to the geography of the Andes.
This full-day journey takes you from Cusco to one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological sites, combining a scenic train ride, a guided exploration of the citadel and time to appreciate the details that make Machu Picchu an enduring symbol of Peru.
Itinerary
- Early Morning – From Cusco To The Sacred Valley: The day begins early with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco or another agreed meeting point.
- We travel toward the train station assigned to your reservation, commonly Ollantaytambo, passing through the landscapes of the Sacred Valley. The route offers views of agricultural fields, traditional settlements and mountains that rise above the Urubamba River.
- After arriving at the station, we board the train to Aguas Calientes. Please note that the train departure time and station depend on ticket availability and the confirmed itinerary.
- Train Journey – Following the Urubamba River: The train journey is an experience in itself.
- As the train follows the river valley, the scenery gradually changes from open Andean farmland to narrower valleys, steep slopes and increasingly lush vegetation. The mountains draw closer, and the landscape becomes more dramatic as we approach the cloud forest surrounding Machu Picchu.
- Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we meet our local team or guide according to the confirmed arrangements.
- Aguas Calientes – The Gateway to Machu Picchu: Aguas Calientes is a small town nestled between steep mountains beside the Urubamba River.
- From here, we organize the transfer to the archaeological sanctuary. Depending on the confirmed service, we take the authorized shuttle bus up the winding mountain road to the entrance of Machu Picchu.
- Please have your admission ticket and identification ready, as entry is controlled according to the assigned date, time and circuit.
- Machu Picchu – Stone Architecture Above the Cloud Forest: Entering Machu Picchu reveals a remarkable combination of architecture and landscape.
- During the guided visit, we explore the sectors included in the circuit assigned to your ticket. Along the way, your guide explains the site's history, construction techniques and possible functions, from agricultural terraces to ceremonial spaces and carefully fitted stone structures.
- Depending on the authorized route, the visit may include viewpoints over the citadel, agricultural terraces and important architectural sectors. The exact places visited depend on the circuit available at the time of booking.
- Rather than seeing the ruins as a collection of isolated buildings, the guided tour connects them to the surrounding mountains, water systems and the wider Inca world.
- There will be opportunities to appreciate the landscape and take photographs from the viewpoints permitted by your circuit. Access to certain areas is restricted, so the route must follow the official visitor regulations.
- Return To Aguas Calientes: After the guided visit, we take the shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes, according to the schedule and arrangements for the day.
- You will have free time for lunch, a short walk through town or a visit to the local craft market, depending on the time available before the return train.
- Lunch is not included unless expressly specified in your selected service.
- Train Back To The Sacred Valley: At the scheduled time, we board the return train to the designated station.
- The journey follows the Urubamba River back through the mountain valleys toward the Sacred Valley. On arrival, our transportation will be waiting if included in your confirmed package.
- Arrival In Cusco: We continue by road toward Cusco, where the service concludes at your hotel or the agreed drop-off point.
- Arrival time depends on the train schedule, transfers and operating conditions. Since this is a full-day excursion, we recommend keeping the evening free.
