Itinerary
Arequipa – City & Nature
- Morning arrival and check-in at the hotel.
- Morning birding around Arequipa, exploring green areas and gardens for common urban and Andean species.
- Visit the Historic Center of Arequipa, including the Main Square and surrounding colonial architecture.
- Visit Santa Catalina Monastery, combining cultural interpretation with opportunities to observe birds in its gardens and courtyards.
- Afternoon birding session in selected areas around the city.
- Evening free to enjoy Arequipa’s local cuisine.
Overnight: Arequipa.
High-Andean Birding & Nature
- Early morning departure toward the Colca Valley.
- Birding stops along the route through the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, an important high-Andean landscape where vicuñas and other wildlife can be encountered.
- Search for high-altitude species in the puna and bofedal habitats.
- Continue toward Patapampa, one of the highest points on the route.
- Descend into the Colca Valley.
- Birding around Chivay, Yanque and surrounding agricultural areas.
- Afternoon visit to Chacapi Hot Springs, near Yanque, for relaxation surrounded by the Colca River and Andean scenery.
- Sunset nature observation and photography.
- Dinner and overnight in the Colca Valley.
Overnight: Colca Valley / Yanque or Chivay.
Colca Nature Experience
- Very early morning birding session around the Colca Valley.
- Breakfast.
- Continue toward Cruz del Cóndor for an opportunity to observe and photograph the Andean Condor in flight. Morning conditions are particularly favorable for condor activity.
- Birding stops along the canyon and surrounding viewpoints.
- Visit traditional Colca communities and agricultural landscapes.
- Return toward Arequipa, with additional nature stops along the route.
- Arrival in Arequipa in the afternoon/evening.
